What an evening we had! We were extremely grateful to the organisers of this amazing event who not only, earlier this year, announced Soldier On! to be their charity of choice, but who also donated a table for ten guests.  Our guests included, Jim, a former soldier and close friend of the charity’s, Diarmaid, the new MD of the charity, Rollo, another friend and supporter of old, Dr Ellie and Dr David, two senior archaeologists and lecturers at UK universities, Dr Matt, a senior Royal Navy mental health specialist and Head of the Northern Veterans’ Research Department, General Graham, the CEO of GardaWorld, The Rt. Hon Dr Julian Lewis, Chair of the Defence Select Committee, Nicholas Harrison, former head of Soldier On! and now Trustee, and Adrian, the head of Executive Recruitment at the Civil Service.

The aim of the awards is:

Through the power of a large, high-profile national event platform, the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards seeks to help military service leavers in their transition to civilian life and the wider UK workforce with five core objectives.

Identifying and increasing visibility of role models; military veterans who have successfully transitioned to the business world

Promoting the transferable skills servicemen and women gain in the military and the value they can provide to the British economy if better utilised across the UK workforce

Raising awareness of resettlement issues and challenges faced by service leavers and their families when transitioning

Bringing together top employers from across the UK to further dialogue around the value and importance of ex-forces schemes

Establishing an alumni network and mentorship programme that supports service leavers through transition and as they pursue new careers

At the inaugural event, held on the 17th May, 500 business and military leaders gathered in the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.  15 winners were announced out of 250 nominations.  General Graham and Dr The Rt. Hon Julian Lewis MP handed out awards on the night on behalf of Soldier On!

We would like to congratulate all who were nominated and of course all who won on the night.  We would also like to say a massive thank you to the organisers for choosing to highlight our work amongst the military and business community. Additionally, we would like to thank all who made a donation on the night.
