This is a question we are asked often, along with, why is our course different? Let’s look at what we do first.

We deliver a course that will equip you with the tools required to create your own life and employment plan, and to make your own, qualified, choices to secure a fulfilling future.

Who do you help?

We help people who are feeling stuck in a rut or are unable to create a clear plan to find a fulfilling future, as a result of illness, long-term unemployment, disability, poor mental health, trauma, financial hardship or any other situation that could leave you feeling vulnerable, disadvantaged, afraid, confused, alone or marginalised from mainstream society.

How do you help?

We will teach you how to create a unique and personal life plan enabling you to engage in your next steps, with more, clarity, focus, self-confidence, motivation and better able to present your needs and capabilities to others within further education, volunteering, training or having a part-time or full-time job. This journey starts with an attempt to find meaning in your life, and being able to answer fundamental questions such as, who am I? Where am I going? What is my purpose? What am I doing on this planet? It is only having established who you are that you will be able to concentrate on identifying your goals and to make a plan to make progress.

What will I do over the two days?

Our two-day course aims to show you a way to become more aware of who you are and what you need out of life, as well employment.  You will be taught, and receive practical support, so that you will be able to identify your authentic skills and, arguably more importantly, natural abilities, your values and most suited environments.  We will introduce you to a method of self-analysis, problem solving, reflection, researching, personal branding and self-presentation without using computer-based testing.  For job-seekers, with our help, rather than endlessly re-writing your CV and going through never-ending and tortuous job-applications, you will create a ‘blue-print’ for life that should see you experience a more focused journey to secure a fulfilling future.

And why would I want to attend?

Our charity has extensive experience and success in helping people to find satisfying futures.  That success stems from our being an authorised delivery partner of Transperformance™, one of the leading life/career counselling services. Working with small groups allows you to share experiences and ideas with others, without losing the ‘personal touch’.  Rather than offer a more traditional ‘one-size fits all’ approach that ‘tells’ you who you are and what you should do, we have repeatedly seen how much more beneficial it is to let you regain control of your life, to be able to make informed choices about what is right or wrong for you and to learn how to find a way to answer the questions that will allow you to discover more about who you are as a person, to find your inner motivation and drive, to secure a positive identity and remove any debilitating labels, to increase your belief in yourself and leave the course with an action plan that will help you to keep taking small steps forward when you return home.

Do you work with other organisations?

‘Collaboration not competition’ has been our mantra for a decade now. We work with other charities, healthcare providers, social services, Job Centres, government agencies, schools and universities. So, if you represent an organisation and believe this course could help your members then contact us to discuss your requirements.

Where do you hold the courses?

Our residential courses are delivered in rural surroundings in North Yorkshire in a purpose built training facility, with accommodation on-site and three meals provided per day. If you live locally you do not have to stay.

We also deliver training, for partner organisations, at your location.

Additionally, we run an integrated personal development course alongside archaeology and heritage projects all over the UK and even abroad. You can sign up for part, or all, of the ‘digs’, and by taking advantage of the diverse activities available on an archaeological site, you will learn new skills, develop existing ones and complete a personal development course over four half days. This is an innovative and fun way to learn, as you will get to try out archaeology in a safe, structured environment, with like-minded people and, in addition to learning much from the course, job-seekers will have recent work experience that is exciting, progressive and interesting to promote your abilities through to potential employers.

So, are your courses just for the unemployed?

Definitely not! All of us will experience periods of change in our lives, sometimes that change will be life altering. Many of us will suffer from traumatic experiences that will leave us feeling deflated, confused about who we are, and what we want out of life and may have low self-esteem. Through the courses, you will find that life has greater meaning for you, which is fundamental to living an independent, happier and more fulfilling life.

OK, this is for me, how do I book a place?

All you have to do is email nicholas@soldieron.org.uk to make contact with our course provider and head of personal development. He will respond and arrange a time to chat through your current situation and discuss an appropriate plan.
